Meg Griffiths and Scott Faris are the directors, producers, and co-founders behind Universe Creative. Combining their backgrounds in video journalism and education, the duo has spent over a decade crafting documentary stories that elevate unsung heroes and complicate simplified narratives. They first teamed up at Teach For America—where Meg built the organization’s first video studio and Scott helmed award-winning content—before leading social impact video strategy at a Los Angeles content marketing agency.

Since founding Universe Creative in 2017, Meg and Scott have produced documentaries and branded content supported by the International Documentary Association and the Redford Center. Their client roster includes the Gates Foundation, the Walton Family Foundation, and Amazon Studios.

Process

Strategy

We internalize project goals and target audiences, and these strategic insights coupled with a landscape analysis are the foundation of our creative approach and guide video production.

Development

We conduct pre-interviews to inform the creative approach and help select subjects. We then deliver a treatment that includes what we’ll see and hear in the videos with recommendations for style, tone, and production logistics.

Pre-Production

We engage in planning activities such as scheduling, location scouting and permitting, creating shot lists, renting equipment, hiring crew, and making travel arrangements.

Production

Our team directs, films, and manages on-site production (subjects, equipment, locations, and crew).

Post-Production

We produce three rounds of edits (rough, fine, final cuts) for feedback from our client partners.

Finishing

We work with a finishing team to deliver final colored and mixed files (including both a master-quality file and a distribution-ready file).
